Welcome to Year 4
A very warm welcome to Year 4 from Mr Rich and Mrs Comins!
In Year 4 the children have the opportunity to build on their successes from their time in Year 3. They are now well into the swing of things in Key Stage 2 and looking forward to the year ahead. In Year 4 we always try our best and are not afraid to make mistakes. We have a ‘can-do’ attitude towards our work.
We will be exploring lots of exciting, engaging and interesting cross-curricular topics this year. These include: ‘Extraordinary Egyptian’, ‘The Iron Man/BUZZ Electricity’, ‘Home and Away’, ‘Romans Rule’, ‘Amazing Animals’, and ‘Marvellous Mixtures’. Some of these topics will have a Creative Homework project linked them, giving us the opportunity to show our interests, strengths and talents.
Regular reading at home and school will be encouraged along with an emphasis on learning times tables and the spelling of key words - as these skills will all help greatly with the English and Maths topics in Year 4.
Maths homework will be given out on a Friday, to be completed by the following Friday. Spellings will be given out on a Monday and tested the following the Monday, as part of these spellings your child will need to write them in sentence to prove they understand the context of the word. You can find all the times tables and Year 3/4 spellings in your pupil planners so make good use of these.
Mr Rich, Mrs Comins and the children promise to work hard so that we are able to be the best we can be!

Creating an Animal Database
Year 4 had to use their knowledge of vertebrates and invertebrates to create a database (similar to a branching database/classification key) which then made an animal sorting game. The children showed excellent Computing skills and made good use of their scientific knowledge.
