Welcome to Year 6
Being in Year 6 at Abbey Gates is a special and memorable time. Mrs Jordan, Mrs Miles and the children endeavour to work hard whilst having lots of fun along the way!
In the Autumn term our topic is 'Storms and Shipwrecks' and we hope the subject will inspire our future writers, mathematicians, ship builders, designers and meteorologists. As well as our work in topic we will be visiting Joseph Whitaker for sports on Wednesday afternoons. In October we will be attending a residential visit to Kingswood. It will be an action-packed three days where children will take part in a variety of activities such as: abseiling, climbing, fencing and the high ropes of course!
We will also be busy during the Spring Term with SATs revision and the tests in May. We are also looking forward to lots of exciting events in the Summer Term including Sports Day, the Summer Fayre, - so lots more fun on the horizon!!
What affects the speed of dissolving?
Year 3 used their investigation skills to devise and carry out an investigation into what affects the speed of dissolving. The investigation that took place, including: the greater amount of sugar, the quicker you stir, the temperature of the water, the amount of water, and the size of the container.
Year 3 had great fun this afternoon, exploring how to separate different mixtures of materials. They had to use sieving, filtering and evaporation.
Year 3 had great fun at the Aegon Open Tennis Tournment today. We took part in a range of activities and enjoyed the sun.
Liquid or Solid?
Year 3 had fun this afternoon with our topic launch. This involved the grouping of different materials. We were able to group the materials into liquids, solids and crystal/powder solids.
To close our ‘Roots and Shoots’ topic, we looked at the sculptor Andy Goldsworthy. Andy Goldsworthy is an environmental artist. This means that he creates art using materials from the natural environment/nature. Take a look at our inspired pieces.
