Newsletter - 18th October 2016
Posted on 19th October 2016
I can’t believe another half term has nearly gone by! It has been very busy, with numerous trips and events in school. Here is just a flavour of the Autumn term so far, our Nick Sharratt project was great fun, everyone really enjoyed the trip to the Mansfield Museum, Year 5 have been to the National Coal Mining Museum, Year 6 are really looking forward to their residential at PGL, Year 2 loved their Carbon Monoxide workshop, the whole of KS2 were inspired by an Art day with Sian and FSU even had the opportunity to visit the Local Greengrocers to make vegetable soup.
We will continue to provide enrichment activities throughout the year as we believe they are extremely beneficial. We have just had parents evening and it was lovely to see so many of you and hear all your lovely feedback.
Ahead of Friday, may I take this opportunity to wish you a happy half term!
Each year we develop a plan which sets out the priorities we are focusing on during the school year and the areas in which we want to build on our successes. Our Parent Friendly School Improvement Plan (SIP) for 2016-17 can be found attached to this Newsletter. If there is anything you would like a further explanation of, please do not hesitate to ask your child’s class teacher.
Thank you so much to the creative parents who produced another fabulous display of Harvest bounty, kindly donated by yourselves. (The Grandparents made a wonderful audience too!)
A big thank you from Wendy Comins (on behalf of her Food Bank), as we collected tins which amount to over 200 meals and raised £123 from donations!!
Congratulations to the new PTA for organising an amazing “Bubbles and Bingo” evening! It was fab event and lots of fun was had by all – a total of £753 was raised.
We are all now looking forward to the Quiz Night (created by Mrs McGuire) which is on Friday 11th November – make sure you purchase a ticket, as you have to be in it to win it!
SCHOOL NURSE SUPPORT
The school nursing service can support children and their families with a wide range of services. The nurse will be available this Friday morning in the Art Room.
Last week, Abbey Gates played their third football game of the season against Hillside Primary School. The match got off to a competitive start with each team scoring an early goal.
As the game went on, Abbey Gates became more dominant and sustained pressure on the Hillside defence – this led to a second goal for Abbey Gates just before the end of the first half. Abbey Gates ran away with the game in the second half and won 4-2. Both teams played exceptionally well and the sportsmanship was a pleasure to see from both the winning and defeated team. The football team and staff would like to thank all of the parents, siblings and friends that turned up to support the teams; it created a great atmosphere for the match.
Ikano Marathon Success- well done to Sam P, Mason D and Alistair H as they have been invited to the Ikano School Challenge Award Ceremony.
