Welcome to Foundation
The children in Foundation have settled in beautifully and have made an excellent start to the new term. They are joining in with lots of exciting activities and are getting used to the routines very quickly.
We learn outside on a Tuesday and this is called 'Trekking'. When we go trekking, we care for our chickens, have a go at balancing on the trim trail, make pictures out of natural objects that we find, play games, go on minibeast hunts and get involved in other things that we would not usually do inside of the classroom. On Fridays, we visit Ravenshead Library where we change our books and listen to a story read by the Librarian.
In Foundation, we mostly learn through play, and fun, hands on, real life experiences. We are currently working on our fine motor skills, relationships with other people, sharing, speaking and listening.
Egg decorating, egg rolling and an egg hunt solving clues!
Do Cows Drink Milk?
Foundation have loved their 'Do cows drink milk?' topic over the last 2 weeks. They worked hard as a team to make this wonderful cow out of natural materials during Trekking - isn't it super?!
Our Christian Experience
On Tuesday, Foundation and Key Stage 1 got together to explore the Easter Story through art, song and reflection. They spent all morning working in mixed year group teams, and made their way around 8 stations throughout school, where they made twig crosses, re-enacted the Last Supper, made palms, reflected in the...
We were very lucky in the FSU to see the chicks hatch before our eyes and even got the chance to hold them!
During trekking this week we used the nets and tanks to see what we could find in our pond. We were so excited to find lots of frogspawn which we looked closely at back in the classroom. We even got to see some very tiny tadpoles!
Today Foundation were very lucky to have a visit from the Fire Service. We learnt all about fire safety, looked inside a fire engine and had a go at using the hose!
The Three Little Pigs
Foundation are loving their 'Fantastic Fairytales' topic. We launched it with a dress up day and since then have been busy designing houses, retelling stories and building dens.
Craters on the Moon!
F1 learnt all about how craters on the moon are made during a very frosty Trekkng today. They were very excited to have a go at making their very own 'bumpy moon'. They collected different sized stones and made a guess at the size of crater they would make. They...
The children took part in a Hinduism experience on Tuesday morning. We had to take our shoes off, wash our hands and ring a bell when we entered the mock temple and we found out about Divali and lots of Hindu gods.
