Welcome to Foundation
The children in Foundation have settled in beautifully and have made an excellent start to the new term. They are joining in with lots of exciting activities and are getting used to the routines very quickly.
We learn outside on a Tuesday and this is called 'Trekking'. When we go trekking, we care for our chickens, have a go at balancing on the trim trail, make pictures out of natural objects that we find, play games, go on minibeast hunts and get involved in other things that we would not usually do inside of the classroom. On Fridays, we visit Ravenshead Library where we change our books and listen to a story read by the Librarian.
In Foundation, we mostly learn through play, and fun, hands on, real life experiences. We are currently working on our fine motor skills, relationships with other people, sharing, speaking and listening.
Stay and Play
Lots of parents came into Foundation to join us with drawing, reading, doing puzzles, building, using the interactive whiteboard and playing with the playdough. We had a great morning!
Early Years Cluster Picnic
We walked up to the C of E school for a play and picnic with the other Foundation children and children from Playgroup and Longdale. We had so much fun finding Olympic torches in the woods, using the trim trail, eating biscuits and drinking juice and making lots of...
Our lovely chickens arrived back at school on Tuesday - how they have grown! A BIG 'thank-you' to Mrs Salmon for looking after them so well whilst on their extended 'holiday'. We are enjoying watching them explore their fabulous new home and caring for them....
Diamond Jubilee afternoon tea
We kicked off our Diamond Jubilee celebrations with an afternoon tea for the grandparents of the children in Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1. Our guests were treated to tea and cakes, some of which were made by the children, and an afternoon of Jubilee crafts.
Blunderbus - ‘The owl who was afraid of the dark’
Blunderbus visited the children in Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 this week, for a performance of 'The owl who was afraid of the dark'. The children all enjoyed the fun-filled show before taking part in follow-up workshops in the afternoon. It was a fabulous day despite all the owl poo...!!
A rather windy Trekking Tuesday!
Today we went outside to explore the wind! We chose items from the 'Windy Day Box' and ran, watched, twirled, waved and chatted about what the wind was doing to the material and ribbons.
Our egg rolling competition was a success! All of the eggs were beautifully decorated, but looked very different once they reached the bottom of the hill!! We stood in a line behind a log at the top of the hill, and let go of our eggs after 3. The...
Bring Your Pet to School Day

Space Centre Visit
Take a look at the photographs from our very exciting visit to The National Space Centre in Leicester. We went on a big yellow bus, flew to space on a rocket and looked carefully at the planets and stars. We had a great day!
