Welcome to Year 5
Welcome to Year 5 from Mr Rich and Mrs Haywood.
In Upper Key Stage 2 we are now preparing ourselves to be role models to the younger children. We have a ‘can-do’ attitude towards our work and learning.
In Year 5, we love to learn. Our teacher and teaching assistant ensure that our learning is fun, but focussed on helping us to be the best we can be! Marvellous Maths, Exciting English and Terrific Topic is the order of each day, with thrills and spills along the way!
We will be exploring lots of exciting, engaging and interesting cross-curricular topics this year. These include: ‘Life is the Pits!’, ‘Alchemy Island’, ‘Spectacular Space’, ‘Invaders and Settlers’, ‘Resplendent Rainforests’ and ‘Hola Mexico’. Some of these topics will have a Creative Homework project linked them, giving us the opportunity to show our interests, strengths and talents.
Regular reading at home and school will be encouraged - after all reading is the foudnation for all other learning to take place from. We will also have an emphasis on learning times tables and the spelling of key words.
Mr Rich, Mrs Haywood and the children promise to work hard so that we are able to be the best we can be!
Keep checking out our page to see what we get up to!
North or South?
This afternoon we explored how to identify the north and south poles on a magnet. We also had chance to make a compass.
Marvellous Magnet Mayhem
This afternoon we had a magnificent time with magnets. We explored which metals are magnetic, their strength and their polarity.
TUESDAY - Drama time
Today we explored a scene from David Wiesner's book, 'Tuesday'. It was great fun creating speech for each of the characters.
Today we investigated the effect of friction on a toy car when released off a ramp. We kept many factors the same to enable a fair test, but changed the material on the surface. Which do you think had the least amount of friction?
Spring is in the air! Year 3 were out and about in the sunshine today looking for inspiration for their new topic 'Flower Power'. Some had noticed changes on their way to school, for example, that many of the trees in the school grounds were now in blossom. They took time...
Stone Age Art Week
This week we had fun creating several pieces of Stone Age art. We enjoyed making Stonehenge replicas using modelling clay. With chalk pastels we created cave paintings which helped turn Mrs Hatton's desk into a Stone Age cave (Mr O'Brien likes to call it his 'Man-Cave'!!)...
Year 3 took a massive step back in time to learn about life millions of years ago at Creswell Crags. Whilst there the children had the opportunity to experience what it would have been like living in a cave - with absolutely none of the 'mod cons' or home comforts that...
Inspirational Maths Week in Year 3

You Old Fossil!
Today we had great fun investigating dinosaur fossils, learning the fossilisation process and making replica fossils.
Rock Formation eBooks
