Welcome to Year 5
Welcome to Year 5 from Mr Rich and Mrs Comins.
Mr Rich and Mrs Comins work hard to ensure that we are ready for Upper Key Stage 2. We're now preparing ourselves to be role models to the younger children, but also ready to learn. We have a ‘can-do’ attitude towards our work.
In Year 5, we love to learn. Our teacher and teaching assistant ensure that our learning is fun, but focussed on helping us to be the best we can be! Marvellous Maths, Exciting English and Terrific Topic is the order of each day, with thrills and spills along the way!
We will be exploring lots of exciting, engaging and interesting cross-curricular topics this year. These include: ‘Life is the Pits!’, ‘Alchemy Island’, ‘Spectacular Space’, ‘Invaders and Settlers’, ‘Resplendent Rainforests’ and ‘Hola Mexico’. Some of these topics will have a Creative Homework project linked them, giving us the opportunity to show our interests, strengths and talents.
Regular reading at home and school will be encouraged along with an emphasis on learning times tables and the spelling of key words.
Maths Homework will be given out each Friday to be completed and handed in by the following Friday. Spellings will be given out weekly and tested the following week.
Mr Rich and Mrs Comins and the children promise to work hard so that we are able to be the best we can be!
Keep checking out our page to see what we get up to!
Fun in Year One
We have had a really busy first half term. Have a look at the fun things we have been doing.
Baby Abbey’s Baptism
Everyone in Year One had a really lovely day today, even though it was raining. We walked very sensibly to St Peter's Church where we were warmly welcomed by Revd Chris and Lynne. Lucy and Jack looked after baby Abbey all the way to the church and...
Yum! Yum! Apple Crumble.
All of our class have now worked with Mrs Goss to make our very own 'apple crumbles.' We talked about the ingredients and we weighed everything to ensure we used the correct amount. The crumbles were delicious!
This half term we are learning all about the theme of 'Belonging' in RE. Today the children brought in examples from home of how they belong to different groups outside of school. Everyone was really interested to hear about the interesting badges, certificates and trophies that some...
Alone in the Woods
Today we listened to the story 'Alone in the woods' by Ian Becks. Mrs Vanner told us that the bear from the story was hiding somewhere in our playground. We searched everywhere for him. We looked in the treehouse, on the trim trail, in the greenhouse, in...
Fun in the Tree House
We love it in Year One. We have settled in really well and we have great fun playing together on the Tree House.
We have been learning all about 'Superheroes' with Mrs Whalley this week. Take a look at some of the things we have been doing.
Forest Friday. The Foggy, Foggy Forest
Our first 'Forest Friday' session in Year One was based on the story 'The Foggy, Foggy Forest.' We listened carefully to the story and then guessed what each shadow was before Mrs Vanner revealed the actual picture. We were very good at guessing! After we listened to...
Keeping fit during apparatus.
On a Wednesday morning we enjoy keeping fit by doing PE in the hall on the apparatus. We enjoy climbing high and balancing across the beams.
Today, we went on a bear hunt! We walked through the long grass, sticky mud, gloomy forest and cold river until we came to a dark cave. Inside was a big, brown bear! Once we were safely back in the Story Circle, we worked in small groups, each with their...
