Welcome to Year 6
Being in Year 6 at Abbey Gates is a special and memorable time. Mrs Jordan, Mrs O'Dea, Mrs Miles and the children endeavour to work hard whilst having lots of fun along the way!
In the Autumn term our topic is 'Storms and Shipwrecks' and we hope the subject will inspire our future writers, mathematicians, ship builders, designers and meteorologists. As well as our work in topic we will be visiting Joseph Whitaker for sports on Wednesday afternoons. In October we will be attending a residential visit to Kingswood. It will be an action-packed three days where children will take part in a variety of activities such as: abseiling, climbing, fencing and the high ropes of course!
We will also be busy during the Spring Term with SATs revision and the tests in May. We are also looking forward to lots of exciting events in the Summer Term including Sports Day, the Summer Fayre, - so lots more fun on the horizon!!
This half term we are learning all about the theme of 'Belonging' in RE. Today the children brought in examples from home of how they belong to different groups outside of school. Everyone was really interested to hear about the interesting badges, certificates and trophies that some...
Alone in the Woods

Fun in the Tree House
We love it in Year One. We have settled in really well and we have great fun playing together on the Tree House.
We have been learning all about 'Superheroes' with Mrs Whalley this week. Take a look at some of the things we have been doing.
Forest Friday. The Foggy, Foggy Forest
Our first 'Forest Friday' session in Year One was based on the story 'The Foggy, Foggy Forest.' We listened carefully to the story and then guessed what each shadow was before Mrs Vanner revealed the actual picture. We were very good at guessing! After we listened to...
Keeping fit during apparatus.
On a Wednesday morning we enjoy keeping fit by doing PE in the hall on the apparatus. We enjoy climbing high and balancing across the beams.
Today, we went on a bear hunt! We walked through the long grass, sticky mud, gloomy forest and cold river until we came to a dark cave. Inside was a big, brown bear! Once we were safely back in the Story Circle, we worked in small groups, each with their...
This morning was packed full of Easter crafts in the Hall! We made lots of exciting things: Rabbit headbands Chocolatey nests Easter baskets Collage eggs The life cycle of a chicken Life paintings of daffodils A great big 'THANK-YOU' to all of our visitors, we hope that you had as...
