Welcome to Year 6
Being in Year 6 at Abbey Gates is a special and memorable time. Mrs Jordan, Mrs Miles and the children endeavour to work hard whilst having lots of fun along the way!
In the Autumn term our topic is 'Storms and Shipwrecks' and we hope the subject will inspire our future writers, mathematicians, ship builders, designers and meteorologists. As well as our work in topic we will be visiting Joseph Whitaker for sports on Wednesday afternoons. In October we will be attending a residential visit to Kingswood. It will be an action-packed three days where children will take part in a variety of activities such as: abseiling, climbing, fencing and the high ropes of course!
We will also be busy during the Spring Term with SATs revision and the tests in May. We are also looking forward to lots of exciting events in the Summer Term including Sports Day, the Summer Fayre, - so lots more fun on the horizon!!
Designing Musical Instruments!
As part of our Design and Technology topic and our Music topic of Samba, we planned, made and evaluated our very own musical instruments. Take a look at us in action and our final products.

To demonstrate that sounds are made by vibrations and can travel through a medium, the children made string telephones. They then had great fun testing them out by asking each other questions.
A City of Feelings
As a class we looked at photos of the Favelas in Brazil. Then we made two lists, one with the negative emotions of living in the Favelas and another with the positive emotions. The children then created cuboid and cubes with a mixture of these emotions written on the sides...
