Welcome to Year 6
Being in Year 6 at Abbey Gates is a special and memorable time. Mrs Jordan, Mrs Hatton, Mrs Miles and the children endeavour to work hard whilst having lots of fun along the way!
In the Autumn term our topic is 'Storms and Shipwrecks' and we hope the subject will inspire our future writers, mathematicians, ship builders, designers and meteorologists. As well as our work in topic we will be visiting Joseph Whitaker for sports on Wednesday afternoons. In October we will be attending a residential visit to Kingswood. It will be an action-packed three days where children will take part in a variety of activities such as: abseiling, climbing, fencing and the high ropes of course!
We will also be busy during the Spring Term with SATs revision and the tests in May. We are also looking forward to lots of exciting events in the Summer Term including Sports Day, the Summer Fayre, - so lots more fun on the horizon!!
You Old Fossil!
Today we had great fun investigating dinosaur fossils, learning the fossilisation process and making replica fossils.
Rock Formation eBooks
We have been busy creating eBooks explaining how sedimentary rocks are formed. Please download our books to learn more!
Fragile Earth LAUNCH - Rocks
We have had lots of fun investigating rocks of all types and making lots of new discoveries.
Abbey Gates Agora
The final outcome to our 'Gods and Mortals' project was a complete success. Every mask was purchased using the Greek Drachma which had been made by the children in our class Mint. Thank you to all that came to support this event.
Build it like an Ancient Greek!
This week we have been looking at Greek architecture and how it has influenced modern day architects. We had a go at designing our own Greek columns in the ancient classical styles; Doric; Ionic; and Corinthian. Here is a Greek Temple Building Game (PDF) for you to print...
The Great Greek Bake Off!
Mrs Hatton and Mrs Haywood had the opportunity to act as 'Bake Off' Judges today as the children in Year 3 practised their culinary skills. The children baked pitta bread and then presented their dishes for judging by adding other Greek treats like tzatziki, olives, chickpeas, chopped carrots, peppers and cucumber....
Gods and Mortals
We thoroughly enjoyed our topic launch. We experienced a full Spartan training session with 'Warrior Haywood' and learned the Greek alphabet with 'Philosopher O'Brien'.
KS2 Arts Award Discover
The children in Key Stage 2 really enjoyed meeting "Sian" our Artist for the day. They completed a variety of activities, including: analysing art around the school, questioning an artist and finally creating their own fabulous piece of artwork. What a great day! Thanks Sian.
The World Came to Our Place Today
Year 3 have had a whistle-stop around the world trip with George, Flora and Grandpa! By investigating the contents of Mrs Hatton's shopping basket they have learnt a lot about different foods and where they have come from around the world. They were amazed to find just how far some...
You’ve Got Mail!
We thoroughly enjoyed accepting Fairy Godmother's request for help. We have come up with lots of advice to send to the inhabitants of the enchanted woods.
