Welcome to Year 6
Being in Year 6 at Abbey Gates is a special and memorable time. Mrs Jordan, Mrs Hatton, Mrs Miles and the children endeavour to work hard whilst having lots of fun along the way!
In the Autumn term our topic is 'A Child's War' and we hope the subject will inspire our future writers, mathematicians, historians, designers and geographers. As well as our work in topic we will be visiting Joseph Whitaker for sports on Wednesday afternoons. In October we will be attending a residential visit to PGL. It will be an action-packed three days where children will take part in a variety of activities such as: abseiling, climbing, fencing and the high ropes of course!
We will also be busy during the Spring Term with SATs revision and the tests in May. We are also looking forward to lots of exciting events in the Summer Term including Sports Day, the Summer Fayre, - so lots more fun on the horizon!!
Fun on the Treehouse
In Year 1 we love to explore and had lots of fun on the treehouse.
Year 1 visit the library
In Year 1 we love reading so we visit the library every fortnight to choose more exciting books.
Boats that float…
We had lots of fun making boats that float. Some of the boats sank, so we had to be really clever and do some fantastic problem solving to make the boats stay on top of the water. We added masts and sails, portholes and passengers.
Today, our Mud Kitchen was officially opened. The children were very excited and have had lots of fun making mud cakes, twig salads, stone soup and leaf cakes. Their role-play, sharing, imagination and speaking and listening skills were super! A huge 'thank-you' to the PTA for funding it. Our...
Trip to Floralands
This morning, we set off from school on a big, yellow bus. When we arrived at Floralands, we had a play on the park then looked around the farm and fed the animals. After a fabulous picnic, we walked around the garden centre and chose £100 worth of flowers for...
A sad day for Foundation
Today, a funeral was held for one of our Goldfish, Sue. The children decided that they would like to put her in a box and bury her underneath a bush. The Last Post was played as she was lowered into the ground, a cross was placed where she had been...
During Trekking today and as part of our recycling topic, F2 made some fantastic robots out of rubbish! They worked in teams to think carefully about which items would make the best body parts and how they were going to join them together.
We have had lots of fun pond dipping in our school pond. We found a frog, tadpoles, frogspawn, fly larvae, pondweed and a beetle!
We spent a day before the Easter Holiday learning about the Easter story and taking part in 8 special workshops. These included: Twig crosses Easter gardens Music Art Paper plate story Reflection Palm Sunday The Last Supper
Thismorning, the children in Foundation enjoyed an Easter art and craft session in the Hall. They made fluffy chicks, chocolate nests and baskets to put them in, painted observerational drawings of daffodils and made spring headbands. Thank-you to all of our helpers!
