Spring is in the air!
Year 3 were out and about in the sunshine today looking for inspiration for their new topic 'Flower Power'. Some had noticed changes on their way to school, for example, that many of the trees in the school grounds were now in blossom. They took time to explore the colours and varieties of flowers that are currently in bloom and to look for evidence of other trees and plants that will soon be producing their flowers and fruits. The keen gardeners in the class had been busy during their playtime tending to the potatoes that had been planted before the holidays. They also noticed how much taller and thicker the rhubarb had grown in the past 2 weeks. They are going to keep a close eye on further changes over the next few weeks as Spring turns to Summer and the flowers in the school grounds really flourish.
Back in the classroom the children looked very closely at the different parts of a daffodil and carefully dissected one so that they could identify and label the parts of the flower, whilst considering what the function of each part may be. They will continue to explore how plants survive as the Topic unfolds...........
