We are so proud of our OFSTED report which found Abbey Gates to be Outstanding in all areas inspected! We are the first school in Notts and among the first in the country to achieve this result. The report is a tribute to every member of our excellent staff team, described as “exemplary” by the Lead Inspector during his visit. It is also, of course, a tribute to our wonderful pupils who shared their love of learning and each other with the Inspection team.

Outstanding does not mean “perfect” and we never stand still or rest on our laurels and the Governing body will be working with us all to maintain what we do well and improve even further!

WELCOME…AND THANKYOU!
As you know we had a vacancy for a Parent Governor as Sue Warren has completed her four year term as Governor. Between sending out the vacancy letter and the closing date I learnt that Paul Riley is standing down as Governor as he and the family are moving “down south”, leading to two Governor vacancies. We have received two nominations from  Giuseppe   Sardone and Matt Homewood so the vacancies are now filled - I look forward to working with Giuseppe and Matt and thank Sue and Paul for their excellent Governance which contributed to our OFSTED grading.

ENTERPRISING PUPILS…
Our Toast club, run by Hannah, Amelia, Aaron, Harry, Thomas and Joe of Y6, ensures the children learn about the importance of team work and provides business experience and skills. A half yearly report from the team found that Chocolate spread is the most popular topping and that children in Foundation are the most regular customers!

LEARN AND EARN!
Further to the enterprise skills learned through running a business, the lunchtime team have placed adverts for lunchtime buddies. The role attracts a “salary” of £1 per session and “employees” will have a job description and contract. We were overwhelmed with the response to the advert and interviews held this week, by Kate Kibble, found that all applicants from Y5 and 6 already show professional and caring attributes. These children were successful and will begin their “employment” shortly:

  • Adam Turnell
  • Adam Wakefield
  • Harry Mitchell
  • James Walker
  • Max Cundy
  • Harvey Warnock
  • Joe Laurie
  • Harry Wagstaff
  • Luke Barnard
  • Sophie Kirkland
  • Amber Whitsed
  • Jamie Vaughan

Well done to all who applied and look out for further vacant positions!
