Home Learning Update
Posted on 10th January 2021
I hope you manage to have a restful and enjoyable weekend. Thank you so much for your patience, perseverance and understanding in getting to grips with online home learning last week. I know it is not easy! I think most initial issues have now been ironed out but if you are having any difficulties please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
Remember working 1 to 1 with a parent at home is a far more intense way of working then when in a classroom situation at school, so you may find your child needs to work for a short period of time before needing to have a break. This is completely normal and to be expected, particularly the younger they are. Getting plenty of fresh air, reading, jigsaws and games are just some ways of having a calm and settled break between doing pieces of schoolwork. Also, don’t forget if they are unable to join the daily catch ups on MS Teams, these are recorded so they can be watched at any time during the day or if your child is unable to complete tasks set, we understand and it’s absolutely fine.
Teachers have been really pleased to speak to children during the daily catch ups, whilst it is obviously not the same, it has been great having a chance to chat together. One of the teething issues last week, was with children starting the daily MS Teams catch up session before the allotted time. We are still working with ATOM IT to restrict this option but please do wait for your teacher to start the session, as staff are also in school with key worker children.
Y5/6 - 9.00am
Y3/4 - 9.10am
Y1/2 - 9.20am
FSU - 9.30am
Hopefully you will have now received a message to confirm when your teacher will be contacting you via MS Teams. We are hoping to be able to launch a meeting within MS Teams with your child’s name and will send an invitation when the link becomes active. Please bear with us as we trial the technology and we will hopefully iron out any final bugs before the end of the week.
We really do appreciate all of your support,
Abbey Gates Team
