It all began with the PTA Summer Fair on Sunday 2 July – a magnificent and record breaking £5400 was raised! Caroline Hopkin and her team really went the extra mile. A special mention to Janice Sardone who has helped with the raffle for some years, to the Draper family for their support with card sales and to Governors who ran the bar!

We couldn’t have raised this magnificent sum without the support of sponsors, parents running stalls and of course all who came along and enjoyed the day!

We Will Rock You or WWRU! Our children were nothing short of magnificent – we are so proud of them. Their talent shone through whether dancing, acting, singing or technical!

HUGE thanks are due to all in the KS2 team for their talents in directing and supporting the children.

We also thank Carolyn Beadle and her team for their superb work with our musicians.

If that wasn’t enough we celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the school opening on 13 July 1967.

Well Done all who contributed to the magnificent Bake Off and cake sale- the School Council will be announcing the winners!

We had a great day on Thursday, going back in time to the 60s, 70s and 80s all morning, then enjoying a special BBQ style lunch (thanks Lisa, Betty, Sue, Rosemary in the kitchen and Hazel and our midday team)

The afternoon found us on the field with a drone above us, capturing us all in a giant “50”!! Check out the website for photos.

Then soooo many guests, including former pupils and staff, turned up to help us celebrate – we looked through the records and photo archives.

We hope your children have shared their “50 things to do at Abbey Gates” booklets with you. The School Council have worked hard, since March, on coming up with these challenges for everyone- how many have been ticked off in your house so far?

Abbey Gates (formerly Newstead Abbey Primary!) really is a special place – thank you all for helping us keep it that way! Here’s to the next 50 Years!
