REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL

Posted on 10th November 2020

PART 1: REMEMBRANCE

Although we are unable to join the village community in our traditional manner, we are proud that Oliver and Edward in Y6 have contributed a poem and a solo rendition of We’ll Meet Again for the online Church service on Wednesday 11th November. You can access this through the St Peter’s Facebook link and we will put it on the school site too.

On Monday this week, Revd. Kate joined our assembly and shared the story of …...… Jelly Babies! Did you know they first appeared in 1918 as Peace Babies (neither did I)? How lovely that something that is so innocuous can have such a powerful story. This is true of us all though, isn’t it?

 PART 2: CHILDREN IN NEED

We want to support as usual - we propose that children come to school on Friday 13 November in non-uniform but maybe they have chosen the colour of their favourite jelly baby somewhere in their clothing! You can donate either through the channels advertised in the media or if the children bring in a £1 coin we can sterilize and quarantine the money before we send it in.

PART 3: PTA

Did you know there has been a PTA at Abbey Gates for almost 50 years? Perhaps some members of your family were part of this trailblazing group in the 1970s wanting to work together to bring fun and funds to the school. Since then it has been a joy to see the group adapt and bring in fresh approaches. This is needed more than ever - a new way! We really see the PTA having the focus on fun and bringing the school community together over the next year. Do join us at 2pm for the AGM on Friday this week, via Teams (please provide your own refreshments!). Huge thanks to our outgoing committee members, Theyvanai, Julia and Grace and the sterling support we have had from their team (YOU!).

PART 4: SUNSHINE BAND

Well as “KC” I need a Sunshine Band and now the Y6 children have joined the staff team (my usual band) in their bright orange hoodies! I’m sure you have spotted them - we are so proud of how they have grasped their responsibility as role- models, exemplifying our “5 Cs”.

We are thrilled to introduce Mrs Taylor Buckley as the newest member of the staff band. Taylor will support the office team on Thursday afternoons and Fridays. WELCOME!

PART 5: OH YES WE WILL….

Celebrate Christmas that is, we will write out with details of our Pantomime shortly and are busy planning a Nativity and Carol service.

STAY SAFE, BE KIND everyone.

KATE CUMBERPATCH
