Y6 Football vs Leen Mills (match report)

Posted on 5th March 2013

Previous Result: ABBEY GATES 3 - 1 LEEN MILLS

We came out fired up ready for a tough game from our opponents. Our first glances of the team brought back vague memories of a strong minded team. We knew it would be a hard so we trained hard, making sure we were ready for the brutality of a cup game (if you loose you get knocked out!).

We started the game confidently, with accurate passing but it was still tough. We had loads of chances but we just couldn’t finish them.  Leen Mills were playing well but our defence was holding strong and standing their ground against the powerful attacked.

Halfway through the first half we struck a break which was created from an outstanding run by William. This led to a through ball to Jamie, who smashed the ball into the roof of the net.

Half Time: ABBEY GATES 1- 0 LEEN MILLS

After an encouraging team talk from Mr Summers we were ready for the second half. The whistle went and we were on the back foot. Leen Mills started to create lots of chances and they had a shot from outside of the box which hit the under-side of the cross bar and went in! The game was getting much tighter so we decided to get hold of the ball and play the football we were capable of.

We finally started to get back into the game and we were playing fantastic football. Although the colossal Leen Mills player stormed through and whacked the ball with some force although it bounced off Johnny hit Henry and almost went over the line but William saved the day and dived straight in front of the ball and hit the ball away to safety.

The game was evening out and the possession was varying, so we were trying to keep our foot on the ball and play football. Matthew stepped up the game by creating a brilliant run down the (right) wing, then he switched the play to Cory who kicked the ball through the defender’s legs to Thomas and he took a shot which took a massive deflection and tricked the keeper and ended up in the bottom corner !! With only minutes left.

The final whistle went and we were through to the next round.
